Sup Nerds 🤓
Nerding the F Out is a project with the hope to bring light to the things that bring me joy. To celebrate the little things that break up the mundanities of daily nonsense. To look at escapism as not a waste of time, but as time spent how you wanted in a world where you’re asked to do a bunch of shit you don’t want to do. It's also a place for me to write about other nerdy things, like science.
I suppose the above might sound kinda… bleak, BUT maybe it doesn’t have to be. This may actually be the point of this project; to help dispel the bleakness. I'm envisioning this as something that evolves as it goes and as I figure out what it is. I don’t know that this project will survive (my life thus far has been defined by impulses, some regretful… others work out), but it’s what I need now. I need a creative outlet that declutters my headspace while being somewhat productive and structured. A place to talk about passions and make content that can satisfy unfruitful internet searches.
Alright, so who am I to pretend I’m some authority to try to claim “nerding the f out”? Here’s my case. It’s my favorite Instagram hashtag. More sincerely, I am a scientist at heart and in practice. I studied Geology and Environmental Science at Miami University (of Ohio) and received a BS in both. I started my college career hoping to pursue statistics and mathematics after succeeding in the subjects in high school. However, it was the rocks that spoke to me. Well, to be honest, as a geologist, you need to know a little about a lot and then piece those parts together to solve what’s in front of you. That approach has always been appealing to me. I’m currently a Brewing Scientist at a craft brewery in New Jersey. I now have to know a little about a lot (and also a lot about a little to run a lab) to solve what’s in front of me. Fermentation science and quality control are sexy.
Okay so along with being a scientist I quickly check off all the other stereotype’s boxes: I’m a gamer, I collect retro video games with an emphasis on Nintendo and its handhelds, I have a cat that I frankly think is more enjoyable to be around and a better conversationalist than most people (his name is Taco. He’s a Maine Coon mix and he’s also perfect.), I’m an introvert trying to make it in an extrovert’s world, and I just got way into Bullet Journaling. Also, books and being self-deprecating are dope.
Hope you enjoy what I’ve got. And if you don’t, send a note at the Contact page.
